Dear BNI Friends,
President's message
A friend of mine recently suddenly found himself single and wanted to do something about it. He had never been particularly successful at meeting women, always getting too nervous to make a good impression.
He came up with a great solution though. He set himself a goal of speaking to 100 women in a month, and the 101st he would actually invite out properly. The first 100 were just a warm up to get him used to speaking to strangers, and all he had to say was something like “nice day, isn’t it?”, “I like your dress” or even just “please pass the ketchup”.
Of course, you can guess what happened. Before he got much beyond double figures he suddenly got in to a long conversation with someone who he fancied, and who turned out to fancy him. He never had to approach the other 85 – job done.
We need to do something similar if we are to meet our target of bringing in 6 guests a week between us. So here is your mission : during the month of May slip the word “BNI” in to a conversation you have with 100 different people. If they ask what you are talking about, invite them along.
Perhaps we will have a prize for whoever invites the guest that has the best “how I got here” story to tell.
Don’t forget our business meeting next Thursday, 7:00am

Treasurer's Message
Please remember to fill out a bank auto pay form and submit it to your bank. It should be made out for HK$600 to “BNI Attraction chapter”, HSBC account number 400 374724 001, payable on the first of each month. Very important : In the reference field please put your own name, so that we can reconcile who has paid. You can set the starting date at 1st june and pay by Cheque for May.
If you prefer to continue paying by cheque, please bring one for HK$625 to “BNI Attraction Chapter” to the next meeting. As a further simplification we are going to make it the same price each month, and $625 balances out to the correct amount.

Last week we reviewed the most important part of our 60-sec: our ‘Ask For’. Creating a powerful ask for means painting the picture for your fellow members: What types of people or businesses are you are looking for?
For example think of answering questions like
- What is their age group, gender, lifestyle
- What is their relationship with members [“your female colleague”]
- Where are they located / where do they live?
- What type of social groups do they belong to?
- Will they tend to have certain memberships / belong to certain organizations? [“you will typically find them at the Yacht Club”]
- What is their current state of mind? [“stressed about all the things left to organise for their upcoming annual event”]
- What are specific values they tend to have?
Business specific questions:
- Size and type of business: name a company that fits this category
- Positions: what is the typical position you are looking for and the name of the person in this position within your target company?
SAVE THE DATE!
On Monday May 18th, we will be organising a 1hr workshop for members of English speaking chapters, followed by a social gathering.
This workshop will be specifically focused on creating powerful ask-for’s: a skill that we can help each other develop so that we
can ALL reap the benefits and make our BNI meeting the most effective 90-minutes of your Business Week!
Date: Monday May 18
Time: 7-8pm: workshop 8-9.30pm: social gathering
Venue: In Central, TBD

“Face-to-Face vs. Online Networking”
Online networking is a powerful tool, but it shouldn’t be the only one we use.
This week Dr. Misner in the official BNI podcast points out that to build a strong
